Audrey Parker is the kick ass cynical, reluctant saviour we never knew we always wanted. We totally get the big-forever love thing happening with Audrey and Nathan and the crazy weird and interesting chemistry she has with Duke, and the even weirder complicated relationship she has with her own self, and her past. My heart breaks for Nathan (and Duke to a different extent) that Audrey continues to be out of their grasp. And we here at the Viewing Party, we quite like Audrey Parker.
That said, we never want to say no to an opportunity to watch Emily Rose flex her acting chops and it looks like she’s having FUN being bad in yet another incarnation. As if we weren’t sold yet, when we spoke with Lucas Bryant (full interview coming soon), he teased Mara as “quite an undertaking of a character”, and praised Emily Rose as he described the experience of acting opposite Emily as Mara as “react[ing] to this nut job that Emily’s done such a great job bringing to life”.
Haven at it’s best is quirky and completely, utterly, wonderfully, weird while exploring the stories of its central characters, including the town itself. Now entering it’s fifth season it’s mined a lot of the “trouble of the week” territory, as well as a lot of emotional beats, and relationship issues; familial, friendly and romantic. Last season continued to dig deeper into the weird mythology of Haven, and even gave us a tiny piece of insight as to where the Troubles began. This has been a topic we’ve spend many viewing parties theorizing and debating about. The opportunity to spend time with Mara, the creator of the troubles and the original incarnation of Audrey Parker opens up a whole new, exciting can of worms to explore this side of Haven.
Mara as the big bad seems to shake up the fragile eco-system in a way we haven’t seen before. So we say, bring on Mara, and bring on Season 5!
